It was Hugh Murray's field goal, late in the fourth quarter giving Roosevelt a four-point lead, which proved the margin of victory in the Uintah game. When the last time-out was called, with three seconds left, it was still anybody's ball game. A long field goal would have put Uintah Uin-tah ahead, perhaps for good. But as the gun sounded, the two teams were still fighting over that three-second tip-off. Roosevelt began to build a slight lead in the third quarter. During that period 12 points were made, to give the Riders a small three-point lead at three-quarter three-quarter time. Murray bucketed 6 points; McLea, 3; D. Snyder, 2; and Duncan, 1. This lead was held throughout most of the last quarter. The Alterra game was never close. After Duncan's field goal had broken the scoring ice in , the first quarter, the Riders ; quickly turned the game into a route. They led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter: 28-4 at halftime, and 35-11 at the third quarter mark. |
