Last Monday, Dec. 10, only about 40 per cent of the students stu-dents were in attendance, and all due to the "undeterminable weather" and colds and flu. Cpl. Jimmy A. Bacon, USMC, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bacon, Ba-con, Roosevelt, received his honorable hon-orable discharge from the Marine Ma-rine Corps on November 27 at Mare Island, California. He saw 34 months service with the "Leathernecks." Mr. and Mrs. Don Herbert, of Myton, are the parents of a baby girl, Born Dec. 13, in a Salt Lake hospital. Mrs. Bill Nelson was hostess to the Social Culture club at a Christmas party at her home Monday evening. Mrs. Myrtle Lambert, who is one of the state committee of the home economics clubs, attended at-tended a state committee meeting meet-ing at Salt Lake Saturday. Mrs. Barbara Timothy and daughter, Diane, left Thursday morning with Wallace Timothy, for Oakland, Calif , where they will spend the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Max Moore. Fire starting irom a temporary tempor-ary stove with pipe projecting from one of the windows in the almost completed Bluebell ward chapel, completely destroyed the frame building about 9 a. m. Wednesday. The building had cost approximately $18,000, taking tak-ing about two years of ' hard work and sacrifice of many. Miss Laraine (Day) Johnson, featured player for Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer studio, has ordered through her father, C. I. Johnson, John-son, of Roosevelt, 80 five-pound cans of Uintah Basin honey and 30 prime Basin-grown turkeys. The produce will be given as Christmas presents to actor and actress friends of Miss Johnson. The turkeys will be taken from the Ray E. Dillman flock, at Roosevelt, and the honey is being' be-ing' furnished by N. L. Peterson, Peter-son, of Myton. Mrs. Axel Birch was elected president of the Altrus club at a meeting held last Thursday at the home of Mrs. B. A. Wilcox. Wil-cox. Mrs. John R. Bourne was named vice-president, and Mrs. Carl G. Davis, secretary and treasurer. The federal food stamp plan for the benefit of persons receiving re-ceiving various forms of public assistance in Duchesne and Uintah Uin-tah counties went into effect Monday morning. Miss MaRee Edwards entertained enter-tained Monday evening in compliment com-pliment to Miss Cree Burgess, who spent the week-end in Roosevelt. Roos-evelt. Dancing was the entertainment enter-tainment of the evening. Thelma Harrison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jody Harrison, and Roy Roberts, surprised their friends this week by announcing their marriage, which took place last July. During the past few weeks German B. Workman has purchased pur-chased 12,000 pounds of turkeys in this vicinity and has trucked them to Los Angeles, Calif. Miss Lois Mitchell and Eldon Duncan, of Neola, were married in Vernal Friday, Dec. 12 Lois is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Mitchell and has been attending at-tending the D.S.H.S. for the past two years. Eldon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Duncan. Dun-can. During the past season several sev-eral hundred Uintah Basin farmers farm-ers and J. G. Peppard Seed Co., cooperating, started to develop the dry bean industry in the Basin, on a small scale basis so that no farmer could get hurt, and yet large enough to give the industry a" fair trial and a real start. |
