Show Our Boys In The Service COY S. JONES - The aircraft carrier USS Essex Es-sex has returned to the United States from a 9-rnonth tour of duty in the Korean combat zone.' Among those serving aboard . the Essex is Coy S Jones, seaman, USN, of Myton, Utah. ' After a $40-million modernization moderni-zation job, the 27,000-ton flat top was commissioned Jan 13, 1951. In June of 1951, the Es sex sailed for Korea carrying the new F2H Banshees. Air Group 5, attached to the Essex, was the first Navy air group to' fly against the North Koreans. The air group flew two tours of combat duty. ROBERT M. ANKERPONT WITH THE 40th INFANTRY DIVISION IN KOREA Pfc. Robert M. Ankerpont, Randlett. was recently awarded the Combat Com-bat Infantryman Badge, symbol sym-bol of the front line fighting man, while with the 40th Infantry In-fantry Division in Korea. The badge shows a miniature Relovltionary War flintlock rifle ri-fle mounted against a blue rectangle. rec-tangle. A silver wreath extends across the bottom and up the sides of the badge. ' The 40th, from Southern California, Cal-ifornia, was the first National Guard division to arrive overseas over-seas after the start of the Korean war. The unit trained for 16 months in Japan before it was committed to Korea in January. Ankerpont is a member of Company C in .the 160th Infantry In-fantry Regiment. STANLEY I. Lawson, of Roosevelt, is presently training as an Air Force technician at the USAF Technical School at Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, Wyom-ing, it has been announced by the commanding officer. At this historic former cavalry cav-alry post outside Cheyenne, the Air Force is training young airmen in the many specialties needed for air power. Besides clerical skills such as clerk-typist, clerk-typist, clerk-stenoghapher, and administrative specialist, the schools at Warren Air Force Base train automobile mechanics, mechan-ics, powermen, electricians; teletype tele-type operators and repairmen. |
