Show Dorothy Sarnoff To Co-Star In Utah U. Taust' Dorothy Sarnoff, beautiful concert and operatic soprano, has been signed to sing the lead role of Marguerite in Gounod's "Faust," operatic feature of the 1950 Summer Festival at the University of Utah. "Faust," scheduled to run July Ju-ly 14-18 in Stadium Bowl, will be companion hit with "Promised "Prom-ised Valley," said Dr. C. Lowell Lees, stage ' director for both shows. Miss Sarnoff, according to Time magazine, is one of the "most personable and best equipped divas the U. S. opera has turned up." Her role of Marguerite has won praise in New York City, Detroit, Chicago, Chi-cago, New Orleans and on the Pacific coast, Among her recent roles also are starring assignments in the" Broadway offering of Villa-Lo-bos' "Magdalena" and Strauss' "Rosalinda." Born in New York City, Miss Sarnoff was an honor student and president of her class at Cornell university. After study in Paris, Miss Sarnoff continued her training in New York where Walter Damrosch heard her and suggested her for the leading role in "Rosalinda." Noted for her concert work with the leading orchestras in the nation, Miss Sarnoff also has appeared on many major radio shows such as the RCA Victor show, the Hall of Fame, Harvest of Stars, and Great Moments Mo-ments in Music. Co-star with Miss Sarnoff will be Norman Scott, American basso, bas-so, who was signed for the Mephistofeles role last week. William F. (Bill) Christensen, director di-rector of the San Francisco Ballet, Bal-let, will direct dance sequences for "Faust" and for "Promised Valley, scheduled for July 4-8 and July 21, 22, 24. |
