Show Pampered Gulls Now Starving Sea gulls evidently are like the human animal inasmuch as they forget how to forage for. a living if supported jn ease for a sufficient time. This was revealed in recent reports that the sea gulls at St. Augustine, Fla., were starving to death because the shriinp fishing fleet, which for "years had dumped sufficient waste to support the gulls, had moved away, leaving the birds to shift for themselves. These gulls had never learned how to catch fish. Their parents, par-ents, grandparents, and remote ancestors had lived off the fisheries' fish-eries' waste. So when they had to hunt their own fish, they didn't know how. |
