Show ilarrison To Retire From Ashley Post; Cache Forester Announced Successor Ona A. Harrison, supervisor of the Ashley National Forest, Vernal, will retire from the Forest For-est Service, U. S. Department of Argiculture, in July, according to C. J. Olsen, regional forester. Mr. Olsen said that Mr. Harrison's Har-rison's poor health and the exacting ex-acting physical requirements of Forest Service work make it impossible for him to continue his career. A native of Auburn, Wyo., Mr. Harrison entered the Forest For-est Service as a forest guard at the Bridger National forest in 1923. He became a forest ranger in 1924 and served in that capacity ca-pacity at Big Piney and Afton, Wyo., until 1937. Promoted to assistant supervisor of the Cache National forest at Logan in July 1937, Mr. Harrison became supervisor su-pervisor of the Ashley forest in February, 1945. He has held this position in Vernal up to the present time. Mr. Harrison has taken an active part in community affairs af-fairs in Uintah Basin and is well known throughout the area. Promotion of William D. Hurst from range examiner on the Cache National forest at Logan, to supervisor of the Ashley Ash-ley National forest at Vernal was announced today by C. J. Olsen, regional forester, Ogden. "Mr. Hurst," Olsen said, "will succeed Ona A. Harrison, who is retiring because of poor health." The appointment is effective ef-fective July 1. A native of Parowan, Hurst graduated from Utah State Agricultural Ag-ricultural college in 1938. He is a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific theatre as a staff sergeant with the Signal Corps. Starting as a forest giiard on the Wasatch Forest in 1937, Mr. Hurst received an appointment appoint-ment as junior range examiner in 1941, and mas made a forest for-est ranger on the Ashley at Manila Ma-nila in 1942. Returning from war duty in 1946, he was promoted pro-moted to staff assistant on the Cache forest and has served in that capacity up to the present time. |
