Show 1 1 Sports In The Open Spaces Heavy snowfall Sunday re-' suited in a rapid decrease of deer hunter success following an average or better kill Saturday, Sat-urday, October 23, opening day of the general deer-season. Opening day fair weather rapidly turned inito an unexpected unexpect-ed 'heavy storm over most of the state before noon. Sunday. Many popular high country hunting arenas had received a foot or more of snow before evening. The kill quickly propped prop-ped as hunters broke camp and headed for home. Numbers were caught without with-out tire chains and other necessary neces-sary equipment to meet the weather and road conditions. Latest reports indicate all parties par-ties were able to move out, many through the assistance of better equipped fellow hunters, Depantmenlt of Fish and Game employees and personnel of other oth-er agencies. As the season continues sportsmen are again advised' to As the seasons continues conditions afield. Side roads are expected to continue wet and muddy throughout November 2 , end of the general eleven day season in most sections. Deer herds are expected to begin migrating to lower winter range areas following the present pres-ent storm period. Predictions are that hunter success should continue high through the balance bal-ance of the season due to the fact that they are more readily seen when on the move and where there is snow cover. One large section of the state closes to hunlting October 29. It is that portion of Box Elder County west of U. S. Highways 91 and 191, and north of the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks. A longer season continues beyond be-yond the general. November 2 closing in several of the state's prime hunting areas. These include in-clude the Daggett. East Antimony, Anti-mony, East Zion. Fillmore, Gordon Gor-don Creek, Ranosh, Meadow Creek - Dog Valley, Mineral Range, Nebo' and San Juan units. un-its. The season continues through November 7 in most of these sections. Sportsmen should check their 1954 deer hunting proclamation to determine exact boundaries and regulations covering any of the above extended season units before going afield during the liate spfison. |
