Show The Bench FAR1E0 THE GOOD OLD DAYS Hallowe'en brings back to' my mind many things that happened happen-ed years ago. The youth of today to-day are much belter behaved at Hallowe'en time than We were, so I won't mention any of our old pranks. . . they will be better left untold. I do recall my first car, it was a Model T four-door without with-out a top. When I bought it, it cost me 20 dollars in work. I was a high school k;d at ths time. There was no limit to its capacity, 3 boys in the front seat and 3 in the back, each with a girl on his lap, would make twelve, and there 'was always al-ways room on the fenders and running board for a few extra. It would usually take a day for 3 or 4 of us to get the tires in shape. Some tires would have half a dozen blow-out patches, others would have an old tire whittled down a little to fit inside in-side another old tire. If we parked on a hill we could usually us-ually get it running on battery enough to switch it over on mag., then we were off for the evening. There were usually about 6 of us. By the. time we had rounded up an equal amount of girls, more often than not we would be fixing flats, or be out of gas and would never erven get to our destination, which was usually a show or a dance. Someho'w we would usually find a melon patch. One night in a neighboring town we found no melons, so we tried eatin? cabbage. Many a night we had to be towed home with maybe a couple cou-ple of flat tires or perhaps just from being out of gas. It seemed that after everyone chipped in we just had gas enough to' get there, not back. But by hook or by crook we somehow raked up enough tires and gas to try it again. But if we had to hitch hike, one of us would stand at the roadside and hail a car while the rest hid in the barrow pit and when a car stopped we would all pile in. Perhaps I should mention that hitchhiking was a little' easier to do in those days and maybe the girls didn't expect quite as much as they do now. But we sure did have fun. Do you remember?
