Show Tennis Tourney Entrants For UBIC Wanted Determined to make the second sec-ond annual UBIC tennis tournament tourn-ament the outstanding sports event of the season, the recreation recrea-tion committee is endeavoring to get every tennis player, 12 years and up, men women and boys, in the Basin to enter, the classic. To the man or boy who wins the singles title goes the honor of receiving' the Paul Stringham traveling trophy, which has to be won three and two years, respectively, re-spectively, to become permanent owner. Medals will go to doubles doub-les winners in each class. George Miller, a former Texas tennis star, won the trophy last year in the men's division, and John Ruppel was winner in the boys division. Miller, no doubt, will defend his title, but John has passed the 14-year mark, which makes it impossible for him to defend his title of 1951. It is hoped the committee will find women tennis players who will enter the tournament. A large group from the boys' and men's classification is expected. Registration must be before 10 a. m. on the first day of the UBIC, which is August 6. or at the Owen Company in Roosevelt Roos-evelt any time prior to the 10 o'clock deadline August 6. According to Dick Owen, member of the committee on sports for the UBIC, contests will also be held in horseshoe pitching and a baseball game, matching two Uintah Basin League teams together. Horseshoe Horse-shoe pitchers should register with Mr. Owen at the Owen Co. in Roosevelt. Everyone is invited in-vited to enter thig contest. |
