Show Open Forum My Observations 1. In the beginning of this campaign I was a little confused, but as the end draws near my vision becomes clearer and Ii find it quite easy to determine which is the safer way. The issues is-sues have been first, high taxes, to which we will all agree. Then when we learn that in the year 1952 the average American Amer-ican deposited 17 billion dollars more to his savings account than ever before, thus taxes cease to be an issue. 2. Corruption in Government: As long as I have been a citizen there has;always been some corruption cor-ruption in government During ( the Harding administration we reached our peak in corruption. The one and only way to correct cor-rect this evil is to nominate clean, honest men, and elect them to office. Then, and only then, can we clean up this so-called so-called "mess" in Washington. 3. Korean War and Communism: Commun-ism: We are spending 85 cents of every tax dollar to fight this deadly foe. They have decided de-cided to carry the fight to us. Which is , going to be the less expensive in man power and materials to stop Communism on foreign soil, or let them come over here? As for me, let's keep the bombs from ex ploding on the U.S.A. just as long as we can. If you check the Communist vote you find there were 75 per cent less Communist votes in 1948 than in 1938, which is an assurance that this evil is not on the increase in America. 4. The Battle Cry of Socialism: Social-ism: How is the government shackeling our free enterprise system? Was it not their so-called so-called system of free-enterprise, backed by the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Bill that broke the banks broke the individual and bankrupted the nation in 1932. Under this system could we have built Moon Lake Dam? Would we have the R.E.A, and now a phone in every home? How about the six school buildings build-ings and the like amount of culinary cul-inary water systems, drainage projects, roads and a bridge building project? Would the farmer have been able to raise the mortgage on his farm, and now find himself in the peak of production and prosperity? You tattle and sheep men, who in 1933 were pleading with your creditors to take you over would you have been able to pay your debts, fence you.-range you.-range land, build reservoirs, and make other range improvements? improve-ments? And now there are those of you who have held out your hand for every dollar the gov-enment gov-enment had to offer, who are standing on the street corners and in public places, shouting to the top of your voice, "We have been robbed." Aren't you being just a little inconsistent? To me it sounds like the cur in the story that bit the hand that had been feeding him. And now as the campaign draws to a close, with Eisenhower Eisen-hower taking the middle of the road, arm in arm, shoulder to shoulder with McCarthy, Jenner and Malone, officials whom the Red Book describes as unfit for public office, on their way to the White House to clean up the so-called mess in Washington Wouldn't Ike have been wise to have selected a brand new mop, instead of an old soiled, dirty one for this all-important job? Remember, you can't get pure water from an unclean fountain. And beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing for inwardly they are raving wolves. Then there is Stevenson, who has pledged his untiring efforts to bring about a reform of our national government, surround sur-round himself with competant. capable, honest men and women, and establish the same kihd of government that he has brought to Illinois. And I believe that he means business, for at no time during this campaign has he teamed up with those undesirables unde-sirables as described in the Red Book. To sum the situation up, this is my conclusion When I have an investment that is bringing bring-ing me in good dividends, I have always profited by leaving good enough alone. And this is good enough for me .... John P. Madsen |
