Show Hear Record Attendance Marks LDS Quarterly Conference Sessions IVIorning Crowd Of 931 Hear Genera!, Local Authorities j By HOMER P. EDWARDS The second largest quarterly ' conference attendance in the j history of the Roosevelt Stake turned out Sunday to hear Milton Mil-ton B. Hunter, representing the ; Church General authorities, T. C. Stayner, members of the j church welfare committee, and j local church officials. It was j eclipsed only by the record attendance at-tendance when Church President Presi-dent Geotge Albert Smith was present about two years ago. There were 931 present at the morning session, and 815 at the evening session. President Hollis G. Hullinger presided at the morning session. Community singing was led by Clyde Johnson, with Lawrence Wilson at the piano. Invocation1 was by Smith Johnson. Speakers Paul Murphy Mur-phy and Dr. R. V. Larson stressed stress-ed the importance of Boy Scout week, with Mr. Murphy giving the history of scouting, and Dr. Larson urging a Boy Scout representative rep-resentative for this district. Mr. Stayner discussed welfare work, and reported there are 425 permanent welfare projects in the church today. President Hunter also discussed discus-sed the welfare program, endorsed en-dorsed the Boy Scout movement, and enumerated the value of seminal y activities for high school students. 1 1 i During the afternoon session, the church and stake authorities authori-ties were presented by John L. Swenson, stake clerk, for the sustaining- vote of membsrs present. President Hullinger spoke of the value of worthwhile reading matter; W. Russel Todd stressed the importance of living a clean life; and Mr. Stayner admonished admon-ished the people to live within their means. President Hunter pointed out the value and wealth of excellent excel-lent material provided by the church to its members, recalled many of the principles involved in church study, and explained the LDS conception of life after af-ter death, and many other ideas put forth by the church. Sunday evening's program was urjyr the direction of the Stake M.I.A. 1 i 1 Preston D. Richards, Salt Lake City attorney and former member of the Los Angeles Stake presidency, will speak at Sacrament meeting Sunday night before both Roosevelt wards. His subject is expected to be, "The Life of Lincoln." |
