Show Welfare Payment Increase Affects 226 Local Families The October increase of welfare wel-fare money to recipients throughout the state affected some 226 families in Duchesne County, reports Lowell G. Cowman, Cow-man, county director of the Public Welfare Department. The increases, which were granted on a sliding scale, fixed on the cost of living, raised the maximum grant for a single person from $62 monthly to $63; the maximum for two (such as a couple) from $113.50 to $115 a month; and raised the maximum for families on welfare wel-fare grants from $206.50 to $209 per month. Budget items for food and shelter were increased approximately approxi-mately $2 for each adult. However, How-ever, all clients did not receive this because of legal maximum limits, Mr. Coleman pointed out Total assistant payments in Duchesne County for August this year amounted to $15,830 -39, Mr. Coleman said. Payments went to 226 families or 380 persons. Average payment per person amounted to $41.66. This statistical information shows a decrease of $434.53 for the same period last year in this county. Welfare cases also decreased from 243 to 226 during dur-ing 1952 in Duchesne County, the director reported. |
