Show Call Sounded For More Centennial Chorus Singers Efforts to organize a Centennial Centen-nial chorus Jrom Duchesne and western Uintah counties have met with mild success, Clyde L. Johnson, director, reports. Rehearsals Re-hearsals have been good, but the number of participants is far below be-low expectations, Mr: Johnson stated. Arrangements have been made to train and direct a chorus of 400 voices. It was originally planned to draw two hundred singers from the vicinity of Roosevelt and the remainder from other sections of the two counties. At the present time Mr. Johnson is spending Tuesday and Thursday evenings of each week on Centennial choral work in Roosevelt, while devoting one evening to directing at Duchesne and one evening at Mt. Emmons. Mass rehearsals will be scheduled sched-uled prior to the first concert, planned for September 1. The 'chorus, a non-sectarian group, is a community project, and although sponsored by the Centennial committee this year, it will be continued as a permanent per-manent community project, Mr. Johnson advised. Mr. Johnson, music director at Alterra high school, is a musician of wide experience and extensive training. He has studied in Europe Eu-rope and under outstanding tutors tu-tors in the United States. Members of the chorus joined Mr, Johnson this week in a call for additional voices, asking interested in-terested persons from the Roosevelt Roose-velt area to report at 8 p. m. Tuesday and Thursday of each week at the Roosevelt stake house. |
