Show SOCIETY Jr. Social Culture Club , i Mrs. Lee Allred was hostess to members of the Jr. Social Culture club at a dessert lunch-eon lunch-eon at her home on Monday evening. Mrs. Steve Bellon, Vice E resident, presided during the usincss meeting. Reports covering cover-ing the convention of the Utah Federation of Women's Clubs were given by Mrs. Clifton Laris, Mrs. Frank Yack, Mrs. Stanley Hall and Mrs. Steve Bellon. Mrs. Eldred Allred, registered nurse, gave an interesting lecture on home nursing. Those attending were Mrs. Frank Griffin, Mrs. Stanley Hall, Mrs.- Cecil Jenkins, Mrs. Aldon Alexander, Mrs. Bill Nelson, Mrs. Bernard Larsen, Mrs. Parley Rawlings, Mrs. Frank Yack, Mrs. Steve Bellon, Mrs. Clifton Laris and Mrs. Eldred El-dred Allred. Friday Bridge Mrs. Sam Weiss was hostess to members and guests of the Friday Fri-day Bridge club at her. home on May 3. A tempting salad course supper was served to Mrs. Lester Mullins, Mrs. Eugene Harmston, Mrs. Bennie Schmiett,-.Mrs. Gordon Gor-don Harmston, Mrs. C. L. Ashton, Mrs. Louis Corbridge, Mrs; Fred Ferron, Mrs. Vean Bair, Mrs. C. L. Fretwell, Mrs. R. H. Harrison and Mrs. John Bourne. Following Follow-ing supper three tables were arranged ar-ranged for bridge. Engagement Announced Mr. and Mrs. Dick Scholes announce an-nounce the engagement of their daughter, Bonnie, to Earl Hag-han, Hag-han, son of Mrs. Pearl Haghan of Willows, California. As yet no date for the wedding has been set.; j I Mrs. Lynn Labrum Honored One of the attractive social 'events of the week was the in-1 in-1 formal tea at the home of Mrs. ! H. P. Edwards Thursday evening, May 2, In honor of Mrs. Lynn Labrum, the former Miriam Long. Mrs. Lester Mullins, Mrs. Ned Bellon, Mrs. Jack Hoover, Mrs. Steve Bellon, Mrs. , L. C. Labrum, Mrs. J. J, Cook and Miss Beth Broden acted as host-esses host-esses A pink and white color scheme was carried out throughout the house which was lovely with softly lighted candles and many bouquets of gorgeous tulips interspersed in-terspersed with white liacs and pink and white spiraea. In the serving room the pink and white motif was further developed with the tea table laid with an exquisite lace cloth cen tered with a silver bowl of pink tulips and white spiraea. White tapers in silver candelabra lighted light-ed the setting. Presiding at the table were Mrs. Darrell Wardle and Miss Beth Broden. Mrs. Labrum, stunning in a gown of pink taffeta and net, was assisted in receiving her guests by Mrs. Ray G. Labrum, mother of the bridegroom, Miss Eunice Long, sister of the bride, and Mrs. Jack Hoover. Mrs. L. C. Labrum and Mrs. Steve Bellon were in charge of the dinning j room, while Mrs. Ned Bellon was in charge Of the gift room. Soft background music was played throughout the evening featuring vocal selections by Miss Bernice Palfreyman and Miss Esther Wogec and piano selections selec-tions by Mrs. R. Q. Warnock and Miss Betty Jo Sprouse. . Neighborhood Sewing Club Members of the Neighborhood Sewing club met last week at the home of Mrs. J. S. Rawlings. Tempting , light . refreshments were served with covers laid for Mrs. Frank Yack," Mrs. Parley Rawlings, Mrs. Louis Laris, Mrs. Clifton- Laris, Mrs. Howard Andrews, An-drews, Mrs. Neldon Nyberg and Mjcs. Floyd Labrum. Announces Betrothal Mr. and Mrs. Virgil W. Me-cham Me-cham announce the engagement of their daughter, Dawna, to Pfc. 1 Clinton L. Bird, son of Mr. and (Mrs. Clarence Bird of Bluebell. Dawna is a senior at the Roosevelt Roos-evelt high school. Pfc. Bird has re-inlisted in the Army and left April 30 for assignment overseas. Just-A-Mere Club Beautiful bouquets of purple and white lilacs formed the decorations dec-orations when Mrs. Farrel Wil-kins Wil-kins entertained her bridge club on Wednesday evening, May 1. Tempting light refreshments were served to eight members and four special guests including Mrs. Neal Schaermeyer, Mrs. Dan Allen, Mrs. Reuben Larsen and Mrs. Wm. Morrison. Following Follow-ing luncheon three tables were arranged for bridge with prizes being won by Mrs. Schafer-meyer, Schafer-meyer, Mrs. Grant Killian, Mrs. Clair Larson and Mrs. Harry Owen. Guest favors consisted of clever Mexican pottery urns containing con-taining lovely Mexican handkerchiefs. Loranger-Smith Nuptials One of the outstanding nuptial events of the spring season took kplace in the presence of 100 guests Sunday morning, May 5, when Miss Lucille Loranger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Loranger . of Roosevelt, became the bride of Elmer Smith, son of Mr, and Mrs. John Smith of Roosevelt. The marriage rites were performed per-formed at a 10 o'clock mass with nuptial blessing celebrated by Father Wcndel Luetmcr at St. Helen's Catholic Church, before an altar decorated with white carnations, rose snapdragons anu lighted white tapers. The bride was lovely In a floor length dress of white chiffon chif-fon fashioned with a tight basque waist, high neck line and long sleeves. Her finger tip veil was held in place with a tiara of net and lace embroidered in seed pearls. A corsage of dainty red rose buds accented her costume. She was attended by her cousin, Mrs. Stanley Schmiett of Salt Lake City, as matron of honor. Mrs. Schmiett wore a charming gown of blue chiffon enhanced by a corsage of talisman roses. The bridesmaids were Miss Elma Strielich of Salt Lake City, who wore a peach net, floor length model with red apple appliques on the skirt; and Miss Lily Wogec Wo-gec of Roosevelt, who was gowned gown-ed in a floor length dress of peach sheer. Both wore identical corsages of talisman roses. Mr. Stanley Schmiett of Salt Lake City served as best man. Following the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was enjoyed at the home of the bride's parents. par-ents. The guests were served at a table beautifully laid with a dainty cloth of pale green. Apple blossoms and lilacs in a low crystal bowl flanked with pink tapers in crystal holders formed the attractive center piece. A smaller serving table held the traditional three-tier wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and bridegroom. Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Smith were guests of honor at a . wedding reception at the American Legion hall which was made festive with myriad bouquets bou-quets of carnations, lilacs and snapdragons. The receiving line included the bride and bridegroom; bride-groom; Mrs. Stanley Schmiett, matron of honor; Mr. Stanley Schmiett, . best man, and the bridesmaids, Miss Elma Strielich and Miss Lily Wogec. Mrs. Smith graduated from the Roosevelt high school in 1943. Since that time she has been employed in Salt Lake City. Mr. Smith is a graduate of West high school in Salt Lake City. He entered the Armv in Aiioitct 1942 and served as a tail gunner with the Fifth Air Force stationed station-ed in the South Pacific until his release in August, 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Smith plan to leave May 13 on an extended wedding tour which will take them through the Pacific Northwest into Canada. Can-ada. Stake Swarm Party The Annual Stake Swarm, participated in by the Beehive girls and their mothers from each of the eight wards of the stake, will be held this year on May 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Roosevelt Roos-evelt stake hall. |
