Show Local Tracksters Place Third In Region Field Meet With nine schools competing in the annual Region 5 track and field meet held at Price, May 3, the Roosevelt high school track team captured third place. Carbon, Car-bon, with a score of 83 placed first and Uintah high clinched second spot with 64 points. The Rough Riders took an early lead in the meet with Al-den Al-den Galloway clearing the high hurdles for first place. This lead was increased when Dale Cummings placed second in the 100 yard dash. But a strong, well balanced Carbon team overcame over-came the Roosevelt lead and remained re-mained in top position for the duration of the meet. A loose track made it necessary neces-sary to clock the running events at a slow time. In the track contests the following fol-lowing members of the Rough Rider squad came up with points: Bud Kimball, Loren Lloyd, Max Horrocks, Boyd Neilson, Harold Loranger, Earl McKenna, Jody Gleaton, Wayne Timothy, Edwin Richmond and Eldon Winn. The 880 yard relay team with Dale Cummings, Ray Johnson, Aldon Galloway and Max Horrocks Hor-rocks running, was nosed out of the state-meet' by - Moab. The medley team contributed 3 points by taking third place, Von Harris, Har-ris, Claude Nebeker, Bud Kimball Kim-ball and Garth Gardner running. Ten members of the local team qualified for participation in the state meet to be held at the University Un-iversity of Utah stadium on May 11. The following will represent Roosevelt at the Salt Lake field day on Saturday: Dale Cummings, Cum-mings, 100 yard dash; Alden Galloway, Gal-loway, low and high hurdles; Bud Kimball, 440 yard dash; Wayne Timothy, Broad jump and Boyd Neilson, pole vault. In tennis Roosevelt high will enter competitors in both singles and double matches. By virtue of a victory over South Emery and Uintah in the singles, Lowell Hall vill take to the court for Region 5. Bob Benson and Keith Walker, the runner-up doubles team also qualified for the state meet. By outpointing the Utes of Uintah high in the District meet of April 26, the Roosevelt track team established its right to the district trophy. Presentation of the trophy will be made at a later date. |
