Show NEW FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT ARRIVES FOR UNDERWRITERS TEST Truck And Accessories Undergo Under-go Trial Friday Prior To Being Approved For Service A new American-LaFrance fire truck powered by a 05 horsepower engine and carrying fire fighting equipment, of the latest design, arrived in Roosevelt Roose-velt Tuesday afternoon. Friday it will go before representatives of the Board of Fire Underwriters Underwrit-ers for a complete teat prior to being approved for use in the city. Equal To Best The new machine, which has been on order for something over a year, was driven to Roosevelt Roos-evelt from Salt Lake City by Fire Chief A. L. Scholes, and A. D. Quinn, field engineer for the American - LaFrance company, Mr. Quinn will remain in Roosevelt Roose-velt to witness the tests, and give instructions to the local fire department on the operation of the equipment. . According to' Mr. Quinn the new fire truck with its fire fighting accessories is the finest type available. "It is comparable," compar-able," said Mr. Quinn, "in performance per-formance and efficiency to any of the larger trucks marketed ' under the American-LaFrance . name. It will pump water through 2000 feet of 2 W inch hose, delivering a good fire fighting stream." Mounted on a Chevrolet truck chasis and powered by a 95 horsepower engine, the largest manufactured by the Chevrolet company, the truck, fully equipped equip-ped represents an investment of something over $5000.. A few of the features of the new outfit are: 200 gallon water tank, carried car-ried and used with the pump at all times; "150 feet' of hose' on a reel at the rear; 2 lengths of 4Vt inch suction hose; 24 and 14 foot ladders; 2 fire axes and a; pike pole; flash, red light and siren combination; a fire extinguisher filled with carbon dioxide and one containing Foamite. Fire boots, rubber coats and gas masks are also included in the ruck's equipment. Test Scheduled . Friday's test which will determine de-termine the maximum capabilities capabili-ties of Roosevelt's new fire fighting outfit will be held at the city reservoir. Nothing Is' left to chance nor are minor failures fail-ures overlooked in the Fire Un- ' derwriters test of fire fighting apparatus. The pump of the new American-LaFrance will, therefore, there-fore, have to deliver, under the scrutiny of an examining board, its full rate of capacity for a 2 hour period. This will consist of pumping 500 gallons of water per minute at 120 pounds pressure; pres-sure; then 250 gallons per minute min-ute at 200 pounds pressure, followed fol-lowed by a decrease to 167 gallons gal-lons a minute at 250 pounds. |
