Show Silver Revival Imperative Senator Borah of Idaho, chair- j man of the Committee on Foreign ( Relations, in a recent address, as- ( serted that the slump In the price j of silver was an Important con- x tributing cause to the present world-wide economic depression and blamed the governments of the leading powers for delay in taking steps to remedy the silver situation. Mr. Borah emphasized that reduction re-duction in the value of silver was steadily reducing the purchasing power of an overwhelming portion of the world's population, lowering world trade and more than doubling doubl-ing indebtedness of the countries using silver. He outlined in detail the dependency depen-dency of many countries on silver as their basis of credit and said: "The silver problem is one which requires governmental action. ac-tion. It cannot be solved or settled set-tled by resolutions or through the action of the citizens. Governments Govern-ments must deal with it. And it is somewhat difficult to understand the delay." |
