Show Six Young People Injured in Wreck Sunday, which proved an ideal day for outings, ended with many accidents, nono of which will prove fatal unless complications arise, but two young ladies barely escaped es-caped instant death. Miss Lorena Sorenson, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Davidv Sorenson of Center-field, Center-field, and Miss Marie Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Wilson of Gunnison were near death following an automobile accident ac-cident at the mouth of Twelve Mile canyon Sunday evening about sundown. sun-down. Miss Sorenson, riding in an improvised "rumble seat" of a Chevrolet coupe, was thrown heav; ily from the car, and it was first believed her neck was broken. However, after remaining at the home of Clyde Whitlock over-night, she was removed to her home at Centerfield, and last evening was reported as progressing splendidly. An examination later revealed the fast that Miss Sorenson had suffered suffer-ed a slight basal skull fracture and head and body bruises. Miss Marie Wilson, 15, received dangerous cuts on her face, breast and neck. She was in the front ieat and was thrown through a windshield at tne crash of the car. and with a sudden stop she was forced back . through the broken glass. On both the left and right side of her face two large gashes were made, requiring some twenty stitches to close. Cuts on the throat and at tne back of the girl's neck were also dangerous, as vital points were barely missed. Miss Wilson was also badly bruised about the body and legs. Royal Anderson, a member of the party, received a bad cut back of the right ear, which was closed with five stitches. Other members of the party were Miss Dale Wes-tenskow, Wes-tenskow, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jule Westenskow of Gunnison, cut on knee; Allen Jensen, Jen-sen, 2P, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jensen of Gunnison, cuts and bruises; Joseph Sorenson, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alma Sorenson of Mayfield, slight head injuries. The party of six, according to reports, went up Twelve-Mile canyon can-yon Sunday for an outing. On the return trip, with Jospeh Sorenson Soren-son as driver, the party started homeward, and in making a slight turn in the road, the driver was blinded by the flaring rays of the ?un, which was Just setting. Ahead was a narrow bridge, spanning an irrigation ditch. The car dashed ahead, missing the bridge, and ran into the open ditch, which was about 10 feet wide. When the car struck the opposite side the four passengers in the front seat were thrown heavily forward receiving cuts and bruises. Miss Sorenson, who suffered most severely, was in the rumble seat and was thrown from the car. The car, in its mad careen, cleared the ditch and landed land-ed upright some ten feet opposite. The wheels and the running gears oi the machine were a total wreck. Dr. E. S. McQuarrie, who was returning with a party from an outing in the canyon, was behind the party in the wreck and wher. he reached the side of the injured he hastened them to Gunnison, where aid was given.
