Talkies In Crisis Will the talking picture become a permanent successor of the silent movie, or will It be condemned because of faulty teennique which is beginning begin-ning to arouse violent criticism on the part of the patrons? This question is no doubt causing a good many producers to sleep less soundly just now. As a novelty the talkies had a, wide appeal, but as a steady source of entertainment their popularity appears to be on the wane. Many picture fans frankly admit that, the harshness and poor synchronization synchroniza-tion of talking pictures are getting cn their nerves It is reported that si.'eral picture theatres have already discarded their sound apparatus and that two or three silent pictures have met unusual suc-uess suc-uess One tiling seems certain. The talkies must be improved a lot, and soon, if they are to maintain their place as a popular form of entertainment. |
