Show BRIGHT FUTURE FOR SPORTS President Pilkington of Amateur Oars men Talks of Athletics After End of War. Jim Pilkington, president of the National Na-tional Association of Amateur Oarsmen, Oars-men, sees a brilliant prospect for all athletic sports when peace is declared. Pilkington, whose active association with the governing body in rowing goes back to1876 within a decade of the end of the Civil war believes that conditions following the great war will be much the same as those which were experienced here in the reconstruction period. "The Civil war, or rather the ending of it, gave sport Its impetus In this country," said Jim. "Because Uncle Sam Is practically making athletics compulsory in the land and naval forces, hundreds and thousands of young men who never before engaged in sport have become active and enthusiastic athletes. It is easy to see what the result will be when the war-ends." |
