Show F. J. CANNON COLLAPSES IN PULPIT TALK FORMER SEN ATOR I ROM UTAH IS STRICKEN' L NEW YORK WITH HEART FAILURE. New York, Nov. 14. Frank J. Cannon, Can-non, former United States Benator from Utah, who now lives in Denver, was taken ill touight while speaking on "Mormonism vs. AmericaDism" in the pulpit of the Rutgers Presbyterian Presbyter-ian church, Broadway and Seventy-third Seventy-third street. He was assisted to one jof the church parlors, where two physicians phy-sicians were called to attend him. After the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Rus-.sell, Rus-.sell, had been assured by the physicians physi-cians that Mr. Cannon would soon re- ! cover, he made this announcement to the congregation: " Mr. Cannon had been indisposed throughout the day and the exertion and emotion with which he addressed address-ed us has overtaxed his strength and has brought on a slight attack of heart failure. The physicians assure as-sure me that he will soon recover." The senator had been speaking forty-five minutes probably and had just quoted a section from a book of Mormon doctrines to illustrate ono of his statements when he was seen to falter. He laid the book upon the pulpit and turned toward a chair back of the pulpit which he managed to reach unassisted. He became pale and showed' evidence of suffering, but struggled against it until his condition was observed and he was assisted to the church rooms. Phy- sicians in the congregation hurried j to his aid. Soon afterward he recovered recov-ered from the attack and with Mrs. I Cannon and several of the church : members he' was taken in an automobile auto-mobile to the Hotel Collingwood. |
