Believed That the Administration of Foreign Policies of Nations at War Would Welcome Action of Neutral Agency. Washington. David Starr Jordan, chancellor of the Leland Stanford university uni-versity and head of the International Peace congress, recently held in San Francisco, told President Wilson on Friday that a quasi-official meeting of neutral nations probably will be held some time before Christmas, either at The Hague, Berne or Copenhagen, Copen-hagen, to attempt to bring about peace in Europe. Dr. Jordan conveyed to the president presi-dent a resolution from the peace congress con-gress urging him to co-operate with other ntutrals in calling such a conference. con-ference. In a statement laid before the president pres-ident by Dr. Jordan, it was declared that as a result of recent missions to the governments of the warring nations na-tions it could be stated that while the nations at war were not willing themselves to 'begin negotiations for peace, "there is nevertheless abundant abund-ant evidence that those charged with the administration of the foreign policies pol-icies of these nations would welcome, or at least not oppose, affirmative action by a neutral agency to bring about a peace based on international justice." Dr. Jordan said that while no official of-ficial information was available, peace advocates had learned from unofficial un-official sources in Holland, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark and Spain that those countries would ,be glad to take part in any movement to further the cause of peace. |
