Show WATCHFUL WAITING HOW LONG? How long shall the citizens of Mount Pleasant sit in "watchful waiting" for some of its laws to be enforced? Laws, the breaking of which endangers the lives of women and children every day. This refers ' to nothing more than bicycle riding on our sidwealks which is becoming a public nuisance. Several cases have been reported lately in which both women and children have been hurled to the pavement. Fortunately, Fortun-ately, no one has been killed yet. and no skulls fractured. (Guess that is what we are waiting for). There is no objection to the law as it stands that bicycle riders be al-; lowed on the sidewalks provided they get off their wheel or off the sidewalk side-walk when meeting or passing' anyone any-one but when the mothers have toj wheel their babies off into the ditch for fear of getting run into, it is getting beyond a joke, and high, time for some of our officials to wake up. Some of the youngsters are not to! be blamed alone, for some of the i grown-ups do not have manners nor respect enough for ladies to observe this mark of breeding, to say nothing noth-ing of the law. From now on, let every bicycle rider be a gentleman, from mere force of habit or be forced by the law and the consequences. Let the good work begin at once. r r |
