Show A GREAT LOSS For some unknown reason or an incomprehensible policy followed by the city administration of Mount rie:sant the citizens of the town are experiencing a great financial loss in the management of the Electric Elec-tric Light and Power plant which is owned by the city. The plant is being run only three days of the week, and anyone who should attempt at-tempt to use electricity for running machinery or for any other purpose wc.jld find it most inconvenient under un-der the present system. The plant is run by waterpower. And to give continuous service to electric patrons, the only additional running expense would be the services ser-vices of one more Mount Pleasant man and a little more lubricating oil for the machinery. Ry giving employment em-ployment to a local man there would be no money leaving the community. commun-ity. Everything connected with business busi-ness would be for the benefit of the citiiens of the town. People would use many times the amount of electricity elec-tricity that they do now, if they could get service whenever they had occasion to use it. The city officials have been asked many times to let the plant run so the people could make use of the investment. Really, it is a most wasteful policy to have such a fine plant lying idle half the time. Over in the little town of Green River which has only a few hundred inhabitants an electric light plant was installed a few months ago. The .monthly receipts of that plant are now almost $300 per month and the residents are rapidly installing heating stoves and ranges, which will materially increase the income of the plant. The city dads of that little town are awake and are making mak-ing preparations to nave an Irrigation Irriga-tion load for the summer months and a healing load for the winter, thus disposing of almost all of the 2 35 horsepower developed by the plant, which is run by water power. The little town of Gunnison has an up-to-date plant which is used n'ght and day. Mount Pleasant has power pow-er to throw away, and it runs to waste down the mountain slopes without being put to use. The Deode of Mount Pleasant want to make use of the power, but are unable to do so because some of the city dads say "no." Not only do the business men of the city want the service, bat women of the town have requested it and are continually contin-ually asking for it, yet nothing seems to be done. Some of the women want to use electricity for washing and ironing, others for heating and cookng. Now, just think of that. Counclmen, right here in Mount Pleasant women want to use electricity elec-tricity for cooking and heating. Did you eer stop to consider those things? Or, did you just think that all you men, as servants of the people, peo-ple, had to do was to lean back in year old arm chair and smoke your "pipe of peace." r r |
