Show Moroni Maw Appearance Surprises Local Congregation Highlighted by a thought-provoking speech by Gov. Herbert B. Maw, special memorial services serv-ices in honor of World War II dead were conducted Sunday evening at the Moroni West ward. The governor's appearance came as somewhat of a surprise lo officers of the Moroni American Ameri-can Legion Post No. 107 who supervised the meeting. They had invited him to speak but had received no word as to whether he would he there. The governor himself blamed a slipup slip-up by his secretarial staff for the misunderstanding Taking for his subject, "Peace and Liberty," the governor warned warn-ed that neither can endure permanently without the other. The meeting was conducted by Oman Olsen, commander of the Moroni Legion post. Other speaker speak-er on the program was Kay Ostler, Ost-ler, chaplain. Musical numbers were provided pro-vided by the Moroni high school band under the -direction of Chester Stone; a male quartet, Harold Arnoldson, Mack Morley, LaMont Blackham and John Guymon. Mr. Arnoldson also sang a vocal solo. Gold Star mothers and fathers were presented with flowers by Mayor Charles Christensen. The mothers received corsages and the fathers received lapel flow-1 flow-1 ers. There was a splendid turnout turn-out to all sessions. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coates of Freedom are rejoicing over the safe arrival of a baby girl at the Dice hospital on Nov. 16 The MIA annual Road Shov. of Moroni Stake was presented in all the wards Tuesday evening eve-ning and despite the fact that it was a very stormy night. There was a splendid attendance attend-ance in all the wards. Mrs. Hanna Draper is at the Holy Cross hospital where she underwent an operation las: Friday. She is reported to be improving. , Mr. and Mrs. Urwin Morley Ispent last Wednesday in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Gilbert Monson received word last week of the illness of Jll'Jtlir-l, 11.3. it..- waite Chapman, age 81, of Og-den. Og-den. She went to Ogden on Friday Fri-day and her mother passed away next day of causes incident tr age. Mrs. Chapman was born Oct. 21, 1866 in Salt Lake city, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Gates Braithwaite. On Oct. IT, 1885 she was married to Anthon' Chapman and for the past years they lived in Ogden where she was a member of the 20th L. D. S. ward Her husband passed away several months ago. She is survived by the following follow-ing sons and daughters: Delmar. Lester and W. B. Chapman and Mrs. John Warner, all of Ogden; Welcome Chapman, Fountain Green; Mrs. Gilbert Monson am: Mrs. Lee J. Oldroyd, Moroni; Mrs. E. L. Johnson, Evanslon Wyoming; 2'i grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sis ter. Mrs. Jessie Shouise of Mis sou la, Montana. Funeral services were held in Ogden last Thursday and interment inter-ment was in the Ogden cemetery. ceme-tery.
