Show High Schools Safety Editorials Let's Not Take Chances' By Mary Ann Pritchett North Sanpete High School Let us aU think back to tha; paper we read the other nigh' ; about the little girl who was hit by a car. Doctors do not : think she will ever be able to I walk again. As we laid the j paper down, we thought what j a shame it was. but that is as ; far as we thought; we did no' i know her and things like tha; I are happening every day. Wc did not stop to thing that maybe tomorrow in that very same paper pa-per would be a story about a girl or boy who was our goov friend or even our own little brother or sister. What can we do to stop all these accidents claiming lives of those we love? My best answer an-swer to this is that we rr.us' stop taking chances. Maybe we can beat that car across the road, and maybe we can sav; i a few seconds if we cut across ! the middle of the street instead of going to the pedestrian lane, but don't forget I said "maybe". Now let us go back to t.'ia' paper. This girl also wanted to save a little time, so she daitci across the road. The driver tried to stop, but it was impossible. impos-sible. How much time did she really save? Wouldn't it hove been much better if she haci gone to the corner? At least, she would still be able to wr."k. It is, however, not always the fault of the- pedestrian, fo many drivers never thin'; o; going by rules or signs. Drivers Driv-ers should think twice hrfcrc they go. through that stop sirri, for by so doing they may save someone's life. There is .only one person whom we have to take care oi ourselves. Of course, it never hurts to watch the other person so that if he does do something wrong we can get out of hi-way. hi-way. That Helen jaywalke ' does not mean we have to dr so. Let her risk her own lif.. but let us make sure she doer not risk ours. If we all try ,f. do these things, ours will he n lot safer world. |
