Show Nothing Goes To Waste With 4-H Clothing Girls Farm family wardrobes are undergoing un-dergoing a thorough remaking these days. Old clothes are not only being conserved, but transformed. trans-formed. Dad's discarded suit may make an outft for daughter. His old dress shirts may blossom out in new coloring as women's blouses. Even his neckties may turn up in some form of feminine apparel. Use is made of every old garment after it's repaired and cleaned. These conservation ideas are practiced by rural girls enrolled in the National 4-H Clothing A-chievement A-chievement program. Among its objectives is "to develop initiative initia-tive and imagination that will enable one to use to best advantage ad-vantage all available clothing material." The program not only encourages participants to develop de-velop their creative abilities, but to achieve outstanding records for which they will receive special spe-cial recognition. Recognition will be m the form of merit awards donated by the Spool Cotton Company's Educa-toinal Educa-toinal Bureau. They include silver sil-ver medals to county winners, National 4-H Club Congress hon-oors hon-oors to each state's champion, and $200 college scholarships to 12 national winners. The 4-H clothing program is conducted under the direction of the Extension Service. County extension agents will furnish complete informatoin. |
