Timpanogas, one of the mrst spectacularly beautiful peaks in the United States a peak that harbors cne of the tew living glaciers gla-ciers on this continent is now being be-ing develcped by the Works Progress Prog-ress administration under a project sponsored by the United States forest service, at Aspen Grove. For 25 years, Aspen Grove has been a mecca for levers of mountain scenery, who camped in the beautiful beau-tiful retreat while making preparation prepar-ation to ascend the. rugged slopes of Mt. Timpanogas. During the present summer, cn July 24, Utah's Pioneer Day, more than 5,000 persons per-sons assembled at the grove and attended at-tended a program commemorating t." Silver Jubilee of the famous Timpanogas Hike, inaugurated 25 ve'irs ago by Professor E. H. Roberts, Rob-erts, then a coach at the Brig-ham x"-cung University at Provo, who is now an instructor in physical education edu-cation at the University of Southern South-ern Calilornia. Although the Theater of the Pires is not yet complete;!, temporary tempor-ary teats were installed by WFA workers in the natural amphitheater, amphithe-ater, sufficient to accomodate 1300 persons, and the Theater of the Pines was put to its first formal USt' Mire recently, a group of Utah writers held a comventoin at the mountain threater, and other groups arj planning to avail themselves of opportunity to utilize the picturesque pictur-esque theater. Wrk on the theater was originally origin-ally started as a G. C. C. project, and most of the masonry work was accomplished by C. C. C. enrollees. At present, a crew of WPA workers; are completing the installation of benches in the natural amphitheater amphithe-ater and are landscaping and beautifying beau-tifying the grounds immediately surrounding the theater. Atpen Grove is one of the many beauty spots cm Utah's famous Al-liine Al-liine Drive, which extends through American Fork Canyon, with its beautiful Timpanoas Caves to Provo Pro-vo Canyon and the beautiful Bridal Veil Palls, Utah's Little Yosemite. Since tire Theater of the Pines has reached its present stage of completion many Utah organiza-! organiza-! tions are planning to use the the-at:r the-at:r and its surrounding area as a site fcr conventions, since tne grove and its turroundings represents repre-sents some of Utah's best scenic features. |
