Show Sen. lung- Announces One Vacancy in Naval Academy Senator William H. King announces an-nounces that he will have one vacancy va-cancy in his quota of appointments to the United States Naval Academy at Annap;lis in 1937, and to fill such vacancy will conduct a-competitive examination under the auspices aus-pices of the Civil Service Commission Commis-sion on December 12, 1936, in all of the larger cities of Utah. Senator King has received many requests from young men in Utah for an opportunity to enter the Naval Academy. He states that it is his desire that all young men in Utah, who are ambitious to enter the Academy, may have an equal opportunity. Therefore he is conducting con-ducting this competitive examination. examina-tion. The examination will be held on Saturday, December 12, 1936, 9:00 a. m. local time, in Salt LaKe City, Ogden, Logan, Provo, Richfield, and Cedar City. Upon request it is possible pos-sible that the examination may be given in other cities. Senator calls special attention to the fact that he will appoint only young men who have been for at least two years immediately preceding pre-ceding the date of appointment actual ac-tual and bona fide residents of the State cf Utah, as prescribed by law. The law further prescribes that all candidates must be citizens of the United States and must be not less than 16 years of age nor more than 20 years of age on April 1 of the calendar year in which they enter the Academy. The Senator further calls attention atten-tion to the fact that he will not appoint any young man to fill his vacancy at the Academy who does not take this competitive examination. examina-tion. Therefore, any young man who in prior years may have passed the Academy's entrance examination, examina-tion, or who has the necessary college training which would exempt ex-empt him from taking the Academy's Acad-emy's entrance mental examination, must still take Senator King's competitive com-petitive examination to be considered consider-ed for appointment. Upon receipt of the results of the competitive examination, the Senator Sena-tor will dsignate as principal the young man receiving the highest mark in the examination; the man receiving the next highest mark as first alternate; the one receiving the third highest mark as second alternate, and the one receiving the fourth highest mark as third alternate. After nomination of the principal and 'the three alternates, I the young man so nominated will be required either to take the I Academy's mental entrance examination; exam-ination; submit their high school j credits, ana. if they are accepted, jtake the substantiating examination I in mathematics and English, or sub-mit sub-mit college certificates showing that the candidate has satisfactorily completed one year's wcrk, without condition, in a university, college, or technical :chcol accredited by United States Naval Academy. Senator King will be glad to have any young man who can fulfill the residence requirements and who is; within the age limits above referred to,, compete in the examination. It is necessary that application be promptly made to Senator King for authorization to take the examination. examina-tion.
