Show Winter Ranges Are In Good. Shape, Says Andrews Utah ranges deteriorated slightly during the past month, according ta range and livestock correspondents. correspond-ents. However, there is usually -a seasonal decline in the condition of ranges in use during the month of September, and the deterioration this year is just about equal to the ten-year average decline during September. The present condition of the ranges is four points above the condition of a year ago, and more than eleven points above the ten-year average (1926-35) for October. Oc-tober. Prospects are generally promising for feed on winter ranges in Utah - according to Frank Andrews, state ! statistician. "In some sections of the eastern part of the state tha reported condition of the winter range is only fair, but most areas shew well developed feed. There was but little rainfall during tire last half of September, but feed made a good start during the months of July and August when there was abnormal precipitation," Mr. Andrews reported. There has been a general movement move-ment of livestock from the high summer ranges toward grazing areas, as is usual at this time of the year. The feed has been good on the summer ranges, and ; livestock live-stock are mostly in good condition with a considerable portion of fat stock. Summer and1 fall ranges in the northern part of the state are holding hold-ing up well, the livestock have considerable vitality and are in excellent condition to go into the Winter. In Central Utah prospects for the livestock industry are good to excellent with sheep and cattle showing gcod flesh. Winter ranges were reported very dry in the eastern part of the state but the recent rains probably relieved re-lieved that condition. Private pastures pas-tures have held up remarkably well. A splendid prospective development develop-ment of feed on the winter ranges of southern Utah), caused by the heavy supply of rainfall during July and August, completes the optimistic op-timistic outlook for the state. President Roosevelt has every reason to be gratified at the huge veto of confidence given him by the people erf this country in the lace of the bitter attacks made upon him by some speakers. |
