Show Genealogical Topics By C. V. Hansen Home Teaching; A short time ago a certain good woman said to the writer: "I attended at-tended the genealcgicai union meeting meet-ing last Sunday and heard them talk about record keeping and family fam-ily pedigrees, etc. I have some wcrk I wcJuld like to have taken care of, but I am at a loss to know hew to do it." After learning what ward she lived in, the chairman of that ward was notified, and promised prom-ised to have some capable worker call at this home and do some hivme teaching wo.k. Now, there may be many others who desire some help along this line. Perhaps no work of the ward genealogical committee required more reparation, more' skill or mr.-e diplomacy than does "Heme Teaching." Neither does any other i-.arch of Ihe work effer so great opportunity to render real service to cur fellow men. The srecessful heme teacher studies the genealogical genea-logical needs of the family he expects ex-pects to visit. He knows their problems before he goes to their feme, and he knows the answer to so.me cf these prchlems. When he ccs t:. the heme he can talk intelligently in-telligently of the genealogical mat- ters in which his host is mos' in- i terested. If he presents his case properly he may win the family to the cause cf genealogy. If, on the other hand, he fails to make a good impression, im-pression, his failure wiU make it h aider to approach the family in the future. The survey sheet should be made out first and then all the facts given cn this sheet should be thoroughly thor-oughly digseted before an attempt is made to visit the family in the regular way as a Home Teacner. Thousands of sermons on genealogy gen-ealogy may be delivered in the various chapel j, for a number of years, and still only a small number cf people will be set in action seeking seek-ing their genealogy. The greater part of the limilies can be reached reach-ed only .by hfiijie -vjsits. The home tyacher who goes into the hemes with the right spirit, who encourago-s each family to tackle the job cf finding the rec-o rec-o ds cf their families, can do more for the cause than any other agen-cy. |
