Show D. & R. G. Freght Train Wrecked Sunday at Hilltop Railroad officials Tuesday were investigating a freight train wreck near Hilltop Sunday afternoon when eleven cars of a 70-car D. & R. G. W. train were hurled from the track. The accident was caused when a 'orake-beam dropped beneath the wheels, and hurled the eleven cars from the tvack. The accident occurred oc-curred about 4:30 p. m. and the train was south-bound. Two cars of coal were spilled down the hillside as -was a car of corn, and a car of gasoline was partially spilled. Do'.laring the wreck not particularly particu-larly 'serious, officials 'said damage to cars and merchandise probably would not exceed $2000. Figures on damage to approximately 400 feet of track, torn up by the "wild" cars, are not available, they asserted. assert-ed. Wreckers were brought from Salt Lake City and Manti and section crews from Thistle, Fairview and neighboring towns were summoned to hasten repair to the distorted tracks. Service was permitted over the area at eleven a. m. Monday, and all wreckage was cleared away by one a. m. Tuesday, it was reported. |
