Show THE MAYOR REPORTS Mayor Edward C. Roberts reported re-ported Wednesday morning that the road construction on First East from Highway 91 to the Grovecrest Grove-crest School is now complete. The two-layer black top stretch of road has been constructed by the Utah State Road Department. The Mayor stated that the black top areas adjacent to First East in the business section have been payed for by the property owners. Mayor Roberts stated that the State Road Department would have widened their construction on First East gutter to gutter if the curb and gutter had been installed previously. pre-viously. He asked that property owners consider the possibility of constructing con-structing curb and gutter in the central part of the city, before the city streets are constructed next summer. Edward Allen, representing the local telephone company, met with the city council Tuesday night. He explained safety devices now available avail-able which would permit telephone subscribers to call the fire department depart-ment without the call being received receiv-ed by a custodian at the city hall. The dialing of an emergency number would ring bells in the homes of the Fire Chief, city hall, certain "always open" business establishment-G and li.a c 1 Hire 111-1 UL pOl-iCe. pOl-iCe. The fire siren could be sounded sound-ed from either of these places. This device could be operated for about $19 per month as against $150 monthly for a custodian. Another safety innovation is possible Mr. Allen explained. Citizens Citi-zens could dial the Provo Police Department and they in turn could radio Pleasant Grove policemen on night duty. This would be many times more efficient than the "red light" currently being used, Mayor May-or Roberts concluded. |
