Show Former A. F. Mayor Speaks To Lions Club "The Constitiution of the United States of America is probably the strongest document on government govern-ment ever written," said O. De-Vere De-Vere Wootton, former mayor of American Fork. Mr. Wootton was speaking hefore the Pleasant Grove Lions Club at their dinner meeting held November 2, at the Alpine Grill. The theme of the program, sponsored by the Citizenship Citizen-ship and Patriotism committee was "Opportunities and Responsib-ilities Responsib-ilities of Citizenship". Mr. Wootton directed his remarks re-marks especially to the guests present at the meeting who had turnd 21 years of age since November Nov-ember 1, 1954. These young people peo-ple included: Mr. and Mrs. Evan N. Hone, Mr. and Mrs. W. Cornell Haynie, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine A. Nielsen, and Ann Clark Allred. The speaker emphaised the fundamental idea of a democracy, namely, that the greater degree of freeedom we enjoy; the greater are our responsibilities to the gov-emmeant gov-emmeant which guarantees these freedoms. During the dinner Lion William C. Smith reported on his recent visit to Candada and his work with the LDS Seminaiy teachers in the Province of Alberta. Musical numbers for the meeting meet-ing were given by a male quartette quart-ette consisting of Joy Johnson, Roger Cawley, Paul Anderson and Alex Lott. The quartette sang "This Train". Jay Johnson rendered render-ed the solo "Because You're Mine". Details for the November 16 Ladies Night meeting of the club are being made by the regular program committee. |
