Show Mayor Reports On PI. Grove City Projects Mayor Edward C. Roberts reported re-ported Tuesday that the City Council Coun-cil is doing everything possible to speed the construction of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove's sewer system before f i eezing weather sets in. He stated that contractor Ralph Child's bondsmen had been contacted two weeks ago and advised of the situation. situ-ation. As a result, a hearing was scheduled with Mr. Child, one of the City Attorneys, and Mr. Child's bondsmen. At a lengthy session held Saturday Sat-urday afternoon, with City Council Coun-cil members, Mr. Child, a sub-contractor and supervising engineer Al Sorenson, Mr. Child agreed to keep two crews--in the city until the work was completed. He also promised to bring a third crew to prepare sewer lines for testing. The city will complete all cleanup clean-up on the units of Mr. Childs' con-ti-act where the pipe-laying is complete com-plete but Mr. Child will perform the cleanup on all new work. The cleanup done by the City will be at Mr. Child's expense. Contractor J. K. Thayne has one crew now working in the City and will bring in a second crew this week. In addition, Mr. Thayne has a crew working on his main lines preliminary to official testing. At present there are 120 service lines to property installed, out of a total of 750. Service lines to property prop-erty on Center Street and Battle Creek Drive should be completed by the end of the week. As scon as Battle Creek Drive is completed it will be scarified and a gravel base laid down for winter. Niels Fugal is working on his main sewer lines and expects to have them completed ready for inspection soon. All contractors have sufficient days remaining to complete their contracts if the work goes forward for-ward as it should, the Mayor said. At Monday night's meeting the City Council approved a $500 appropriation ap-propriation to the Lions Club project pro-ject which is intended to provide large, attractive, lighted signs at the North and South entrances to the City. Other local civic clubs will be asked by the Lions Club to assist financially in the project. pro-ject. The City Council also approved the recommendation of the Associated Assoc-iated Businessmen and agreed to install twelve 21,000 "lumin" lights on Center Street, between Highway High-way 91 and First East. The strongest strong-est present street lights are those on Main Street which are rated at 6.000 lumins. Mayor Roberts reported. Also at Monday night's meeting the City Council adopted Resolutions Resolu-tions of Respect to be sent to the family of S. Duane Hai-per, former Mayor and City Councilman of Pleasant Grove. |
