Show P.G.HS. Advisory Committee Hears Report By Architect The advisory committee for the proposed new Pleasant Grove Senior Sen-ior High .School met at the high school last Thursday evening. Principal A. J. Rogers served as temporary chairman and was elected elec-ted permanent chairman in the election of officers, which was the first order of business. Other officers offi-cers elected were Gerald Belliston, vice chaii-man and Karl Banks secretary. Architect William Rowe Smith of Salt Lake City, who has been retained by the Alpine District Board of Education, was present at the meeting. Mr. Smith spent considerable time with chalk and a blackboard, explaining the problems prob-lems to be solved in the location and constmction of the new campus cam-pus type structure. According to the present plans, the Senior High plant will consist of some five or six separate buildings, grouped about the structure which will house the administration offices. According to Mr. Smith the shape of the site purchased by the . .Board of Education has frontage on both Battle Creek Drive and Locust Avenue. He explained that the necessary North-South location loca-tion of the football field would necessitate a Locust Avenue frontage front-age for the new high school plant. When completed the new Senior High School will consist of the following units: Administrative, Cafeteria and Home Economics, Industi-ial and Farm Shops, Two Classroom Units, a Science Building, Build-ing, a Gymnasium, Athletic Fields and a parking lot. When the new gymnasium was mentioned, the idea of including a heated and covered swimming pool in the" physical education structure came up for discussion by the members present. Proponents Propon-ents of the plan mentioned the facts that under such a plan, the pool would be available during the entire year. They also called attention to the fact that swimming swim-ming could thus be made a part of the school program and the community recreation activities. A motion was unanimously passed by the members present favoring construction which would include the pool. The committee also voted to instruct in-struct the Pleasant Grove Swimming Swim-ming Pool committee to meet with the School Boai-d at the next meeting meet-ing to ask if the Board would include in-clude the swimming pool in the gymnasium plans. Architect Smith called attention to the necessity of the early purchase pur-chase of a site for a new Seminary Semin-ary building. Plans for this stuc-ture stuc-ture should be made to harmonize with the overall campus arrangement arrange-ment he emphasized. Perhaps the most stiiking thing about Thursday night's meeting, was the spirit of harmony and helpfulness which motivated everything every-thing that went on. Architect Smith and Board Member Niels Fugal were most cooperative. If such a fine spiiit prevails until the facility is completed, Pleasant Gi-ove will have a beautiful and usable school plant. The meeting was adjourned subject to call. |
