Show Dr. D. C. Jensen Shoots Deer with Bow and Arrow Dr. Dan-ell C. Jensen, Pleasant Grove Denist, may be a fast man with the drill and forceps; but he's no sluggard either, when it comes to the bow and arrow. It all happened hap-pened last Labor Day, in the Beaver Beav-er Canyon. The local "Robin Hood" felled a deer with one arrow at a distance of thirty paces. Mrs. Jensen was present at the kill and was an enthusistic witness to the Doctor's prowess. The Jensens, in company with Dr. and Mrs. Al Stone and Mortician Morti-cian and Mrs. Rob Weithmow of Kansas, spent from September 2 to 6 in the Beaver Mountains. Of the three archers in the party, two got their deer; which according to Dr. Jensen is a high average. Dr. Stone felled a large bcuk with one shot from his trusty bow. Dr. Jensen used a home-made bow, manufactured by Dr. Stone,1 and an aluminum shafted arrow tipped with a three-bladed broad-head broad-head point. The well aimed arrow struck the doe in the spine, dropping drop-ping the animal in her tracks. Dr. Stone's buck traveled some distance before he fell. "The average aver-age track for a deer hit with an arrow is about 75 yards," Dr. Jensen Jen-sen said. The local Dentist was most enthusiastic en-thusiastic regarding hunting deer with a bow and arrow. He explained explain-ed that the special hunt is scheduled sche-duled at least a month before the regular season begins, thus eliminating elimin-ating the danger of the flying bullets bul-lets from the rifles of the army of hunters who annually visit the areas. "During the five days that we were out, we saw only one other person, except the six that were in our party," he said. A rather humorous sidelight to the hunting trip was the fact that the Stones and the Weithmows traveled from Kansas to Utah in an old beat-up hearse .belonging to Mortician Rod Weithmow. The Kansans "bedded down" in the vehicle with a considerable degree of comfort. Dr. Jensen concluded by saying j that the bow and arrow is a legal weapon; and as such can be used during the regular deer season, if t a person has the inclination. Inci- , dently, he has been a bow and ar- ; row deer-hunting enthusiasts since i 1953. |
