In cutting Christmas trees in Utah it is important that care be exercised to select trees that can be taken out without injuring timber tim-ber stand. Thoughtful selections can remove good Xmas trees as thinnings that will benefit the forest. for-est. But promiscuous cutting may deplete the forest and expose the soil to erosion. Utahns need the most and the best trees it is possible poss-ible to grow in this dry climate. The Utah State Christmas Tree Law encourages good forestry practice and aims at helping to protect land owners against tree cutting trespass. The law requires that every Christmas tree offered for sale bear a tag indicating that it has been cut legally. An acceptable tag may be any Federal Christmas tree tag, an out-of-state dealer's tag for trees from other states, or a tag issued by the Utah State Forester-Firewarden's office. Tags may be purchased from any County Coun-ty Sheriff's office. Everyone's help is invited to enforce en-force the law. In case of trees being be-ing offered for sale without tags report it to local police, the sheriff sher-iff or the State Forester at 102 Capitol Building, Salt Lake City, Utah. |
