Show PG High School Players Look "Good" Report Coach Bill Smith, new basketball basket-ball mentor at Pleasant Grove High School, took one look at his proteges Monday, and what he saw was "good." Bill, who has coached basketball at Duchesne and Oakley, Idaho, inherited a group of juniors and sophomores, who at the end of last season, showed great promise another year. And with a rangey group of youngsters who have played together to-gether and they constitute a full ; team from last year Coach Smith will be able to go ahead and introduce his system, without too many fundamentals. Bill said that with the height possessed by his squad, he will play single post on offense, and a man-to-man defense. He has lined lin-ed up several practice games before be-fore the season starts Oh Jan. 4, and will then get a more accurate line on his squad. i Seniors this year from the 1950-51 1950-51 edition include: Dee Louder, center, and Merlin Allred, guard, both 6 feet 2 inches tall; Lynn Paulson, forward 5 feet 9 inches; Dave Harvey guard, 6 feet 1 inch. Kayle Kirk, is 6 feet even. Other men back from last year's squad are Juniors Ron Carson and Merlin Swenson, 6 feet tall, both guards; Sterling Walker, guard, 5 feet 8 inches, and Arlan Deveraux forward, 6 feet. Then there's Dean Wilkinson, a junior, who plays forward, who reaches 5 feet 10 inches; Max Nelson, a senior, who stands 6 feet 2 inches nad plays center; and Vera Allred, senior who plays guard and stands 5 feet 10 inches. Smith expects to have an excellent excel-lent line on his players by Thanksgiving Thanks-giving recess, which gets under way on Nov. 21. So far, the following, games have been lined up for pre-season seasoning Nov 30 Park City at PG Dec. 14 P. G. at Park City; Dec. 19 Tintic at P. G.; Dec. 29, Pay-son Pay-son at P. G. |
