I .t ... . -Tr J - - . . - S , " -"1 George Ruffell Completes Ton Litter Project; Gets Premium Price George Ruffell, Pleasant Grove High School agricultural student, who lives in Lindon, completed a ton litter project recently. This was the second ton litter in the stale of Utah and weighed a total of 2360 lbs. at five and one-half months of age. These pigs were fed a completely balanced ration and self-feeder was used. It took 31;. lbs of feed per lb. of gain and the cost for the feed and other miscellaneous items was $359.30. The pigs were sold through the Salt Lake Union Stockyards on Aug. 24, 1953. The pigs were bought by Cudahy Packing Plant for $28 per hundred. This was a premium of $1.25 above market for the day. In addition to the price received for the pigs, George received a check for $25 from the Salt Lake Union Stockyards and due to rate of gain, may receive additional prize money when the state contest comes to an end. Goode Grain Mills financed the raising of the pigs, enabling the young agriculturist to complete his program. The pigs weighed 31,:: lbs each at birth; 39 lbs. average at 8 wei'ks, and 214 lbs. average at 5',-. months. |
