Show Storms Are Very Beneficial to PI. Grove District One of the most beneficial storms to fall in the Pleasant Grove district in many years brought 2.98 inches of precipitation precipit-ation in most sections, according to Thomas Walker, superintendent of Timpanogos Cave National Monument. The recordings of Superintendent Superinten-dent Walker at the Cave station started November 14, and ended November 21, bringing to a close one of the longest dry spells on record not only here, but in most of the Western States. Superintendent Walker explained explain-ed that when the storm started the ground was frozen, and as a result the runoff was quite substantial. sub-stantial. However, with the warm rains, the ground loosened and much of the precipitation was absorbed, ab-sorbed, he said. "While it did not give us as much precipitation thus far, as storms in November of 1949, it was more beneficial due to the drouth. In many places farmers were unable to plow their ground, and some were irrigating their land in order to plow," he said. Superintendent Walker stated that he had taken a run to Alta-mount Alta-mount and at that station there was eight inches of snow. The lower two inches were water-soaked, and the open ground was receiving re-ceiving the runoff, he said. |
