Show Pleasant Grove Clay Products Company Makes First Shipment Of Brick To Salt Lake City Pleasant Grove's newest locally-owned locally-owned industrial enterprise one that will mean thousands of dollars dol-lars in new income to city commerce com-merce each year has become a reality with daily shipments of the first consignments of brick to Salt Lake City from the Pleasant Grove Clay Products Company. Wholly owned and operated by three local brothers, Martell, Wayne A. and Delbert Ellis, plans are now being formulated to employ em-ploy up to 20 men when the operation oper-ation goes in to full operation. At present there are 14 men being employed daily. The new industry went into the planning stage last spring, and in October the plant went into oper-atoin. oper-atoin. The plan is housed in a frame building, but will later be Substituted by a brick structure made from products taken from !ts own site. The "mine" consists of nine acres of saluvial clay, which has an average depth of 20 feet. According Ac-cording to Martell, there is e-nough e-nough clay on the nine acres to make 300 million bricks. "When it is a known fact that only 10,000 bricks are used in the average home, it can readily be seen that we will be in business or some time to come." Martell said. "Color ranges include salmon, sal-mon, light shades of pink, through to pale buff." he further stated. At the present time the equipment equip-ment is geared to approximately 25,000 bricks per day. However, the equipment is capable of producing pro-ducing 60,000 bricks per day. Martell stated that expansion would take place when needed. Shipments would undoubtedly all be made by truck to points in the Intermountain West. Officers of the company are: Martell Ellis, president and general gener-al manger; Wayne A. Ellis, secretary-treasure; Delbert Ellis, vice-president, vice-president, and guess who are the directors their wives. |
