Show Everyone Urged To Participate Partic-ipate In Genealogical Work At the tri.stake Genealogical convention con-vention of the Alpine, Lehi and Timpanogos stakes ' held Sunday, November 24, in the' Alpine Stake Tabernacle, everyone was urged to participate in this great work by the general authorities present. Both Joseph Christensen, chief recorder of the Salt Lake temple, and. Archibald Bennett, general chairman of the Genealogical Society, stressed this theme in their talks at the two morning morn-ing sessions convening at 9:30 and 10:30 o'clock and the afternoon meeting at 2 o'clock. At the first meeting, which was just for the stake and ward committees, Mr. Christensen told the value of survey and research work, and en-courage en-courage the workers to follow this up more closely. Mr- Bennett told why it was necessary neces-sary to seal families back to Adam, giving as the answer that it was necessary in order to receive the blessings that come through the family relationship. He stated that the family record is a title deed for yourself and family, and the testimonies testi-monies recorde would be the strongest evidence to keep descendants descend-ants in the church. Brief reports were given by John H. Davis of the Alpine stake, Lawrence Lawr-ence Walker of the Timpanogos stake and A. Hunger of the Lehi stake. In Mr. Christensen's talk at the 10:30 meeting, he presented a few problems that came to the temple, and stated that we need more identification identi-fication on the temple sheets for the dead. He encouraged a book fund among the wards and saif that this would be a depository of all the records of the earth. A family record was also urged by Mr. Bennett. He urged parents to teach their children the business of the work and inspire them to carry on the work. In addition to general remarks and questions by Mr. Christensen, the other speakers for the 2 o'clock session were President Earl S. Greenwood of the Alpine stake, President Edmund Cragun of the Timpanogos stake and President Carlos Schow of the Lehi stake. Special music for the three ses. sions consisted of a vocal solo by Rulon Nicholes, a quartet by Clinton Harris and others, a double trio under und-er the direction of E. A. Beck of Pleasant Grove, a vocal solo by Randall Ran-dall Musgrove, and a vocal duet by Helen Johnson and Gwenavere Farr. n |
