J "Colorado Potato Hcctle" The agricultural department of Utah county has Just received instructions in-structions from State Commissioner of Agriculture, David F. Smith, to take every precaution against the Colorado Potato Beetle, getting a foot hold In Utah. Commissioner Smith states that a small infestation has recently been found in Ogden City. These plants were infested with the Colorado Potato Beetle and were destroyed by the Agricultural Inspector. A few of these plants were, however, distributed before being be-ing inspected and these plants start- j ed a small infestation in Lindon district dis-trict but were checked and cleaned up immediately after, thus saving Utah county from a general infestation. We solocit the cooperation of all growers of tomatoes and potatoes and if any signs of the Colorado Potato Beetle is noted, call the Agricultural Agri-cultural Department at Provo, 350. The Colorado Potato Beetle adult Is a stout, roundish, yellow beetle, 2-5 of an inch long with five black longitudinal stripes on each wing. The larvae is 3-5 of an inch long, soft, reddish in color, with black head and legs and with 2 rows of black spots along each side. Eggs are orange red in patches of 5 to 70 on the underside of the leaves.
