Show Leaders Plan War On Noxious Weeds Tentative plans for an open warfare war-fare on noxious weeds of the state were discussed Friday at the Utah State Agricultural college when the state board of agriculture and farm bureau officials met with the college authorities to organize forces for the campaign. David F. Smith, commissioner of agriculture; Joseph Anderson, president presi-dent of the Utah farm bureau federation; fed-eration; Director William Peterson of the extension service; Director P. V. Gardon of the experiment station sta-tion and Dr. R. J. Evans, head of the agronomy department, were named as a committee to correlate the duties du-ties between the agricultural college, the state department of agriculture, the farm bureau and related organizations, organ-izations, in the -weed fight. This committee will also work out a cooperative weed -eradication program, pro-gram, suggest methods of attack; determine what bearing the present state weed law has on land values and its effect on the cleaning up of infested premises. "The duties outlined for the state weed committee require judgment and unanimity to carry them out," said Director Peterson in commenting comment-ing on the proposed plan. "There is a rapidly- increasing weed mortgage hovering over much of the best farm land of the state, and something must be done immediately if our irrigated lands are to maintain their 1 productiveness." |
