Show Ten Years Ago Now (Taken from files of June 11, 1927) One more business house opened for Strawberry Day visitors. The new modern building adjoining the Alhambra Theatre which is an ideal location for cafe business has been appropriately decorated and fitted with soda fountain and show cases for confectionery. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Theobald, who are not new in the lunch counter business are the new proprietors. Ten Years Ago Now Governor George H. Dern issued a proclamation Thursday calling for general observance of Flag Day, June 14, urging displays of flags from homes and buildings and asking ask-ing the people to rededicate themselves them-selves to the fulfillment of obligations obliga-tions of citizenship. Ten Years Ago Now James D. Thome gave a short talk at the Pantages Theatre advertising Strawberry Day and the Vineyard Glee Club sang tw-o numbers for the theatre's evening program. A case of fine berries were presented to the theatre manager, also to the K. S. L. radio manager, both of which were greatly appreciated. The berries ber-ries received highest praise for their size and excellent flavor. Ten Years Ago Now Ten thousand dishes of free berries ber-ries were served at the sixth annual Strawberry Day which proved to be bigger and better than any of the five preceding ones. By time for the parade in the morning the entire en-tire route which the parade was to traverse, was packed with cars parked park-ed as closely as they could be. The two blocks in the center of town were reserved for those who preferred pre-ferred to watch the parade from the sidewalks. The parking lawns were covered with people waiting for the parade. The celebration was well handled by the committee and added police. No accidents of any importance import-ance occurred and with a slightly clouded sky, and a little breeze the day was ideal and the celebration one to be remembered for a long time. |
