Show Second Cut of CWA Workers Made Notice of a second cut on the C. W. A. workers effective March 2nd was received this week by James H. Clarke, local chairman. The first cut of 36 per cent was made only last week and right on the heels of this came an additional 10 per cent bringing the total to 46 per cent. Before the national order for the cut was received ninty-one local men were under the employee of the local C. W. A. committee. They were all on city and county projects. The first cut reduced the number to 58 and the cut today will further reduce the number and leave only 55 on the payrolls. At the present time twelve of these men are working on a city project of developing water in American Fork canyon and the balance of the group on the county road project number num-ber 213, which is the improvement of the lake road. In the order for the cut of C. W. A. workers some change was made in preference previously shown war veterans and as a result a larger number of veterans were layed off than the regular citizens. The new ruling governing this employment places the war veteran on the same basis as the other citizen. The heads of large families, be they service ser-vice men or citizens, are given preference, pre-ference, the actual need of work being be-ing the determining factor. Committee members here are. endeavoring en-deavoring to have some additional projects within the community designated to absorb the future workers and a conference is being keld in Salt Lake today with this as the object. o |
