Show Chipman Couple Celebrate Golden Anniversary The fiftieth, or golden wedding anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Alphonzo Chipman was celebrated Wednesday night in Fir-mage Fir-mage Hall by a party tendered the honored couple by Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Firmage. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. Chipman, Mr. and Mrs. Firmage, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Whitman, Whit-man, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Mercer, Mr. and Mrs. Elden Chipman, Clyde Chipman and Luzell Chipman. At nine o'clock a short program was given. Bishop Joseph H. Storrs gave a brief history of the outstanding outstand-ing points in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Chipman, and S. L. Chipman and President Clifford E. Young each made a short talk of appreciation appre-ciation for this worthy couple. The reception hall and amusement amuse-ment hall were tastefully decorated with beautiful potted plants and ferns. The program was followed by dancing. The music was furnished by Will Wright's Navigators. During Dur-ing the dancing, refreshments were served downstairs. Mrs. Leo G. Meredith was in charge, assisted by a group of young women from the Second ward. A space of the banquet ban-quet room was enclosed for this purpose by flower screens. Burning Burn-ing princess tapers and a lovely centerpiece of roses decorated the table. Invitations were Issued to five hundred, many of whom came from other cities and states for the occasion. oc-casion. Alphonzo Chipman and Fanny Dilworth were married in the Endowment En-dowment House in Salt Lake City, Wednesday, February 28, 1884. To them have been 'born ten children, six sons and four daughters, all of whom are living. Mr. Chipman was bom here October Oc-tober 20, 1862, and has lived here all of his life. Mrs. Chipman was born November 17, 1863, at Bishep-shire, Bishep-shire, Herefordshire, England, coming com-ing to this country with her parents when but four years old. Her parents par-ents came here for the sake of the Gospel, and Mrs. Chipman's mother died when she was a child of six. She then went to live with the Stephen Mott family of this city, with whom she remained until she married. Mr. and Mrs. Chipman have reared a splendid family of sons and daughters. The children are: Bert 'Chipman, Yermo, Calif; Edna Chipman Firmage, who home is in this city but who is spending the winter in Long Beach, California; Sadie Chipman Whitman, Apple-ton, Apple-ton, Mis; Marie Chipman Sweeney, Bakersfield, Calif; Clyde Chipman, American Fork; James L. Chipman, Baraboo, Wis.; Fage Chipman Mercer, Mer-cer, Provo; Von Chipman, Water-town, Water-town, Wis.; Eldon Chipman and Luzell Chipman, American Fork. They have also seventeen grandchildren grand-children and three great-grandchildren. |
