The heavy cast iron 12-inch pipe, part of. the hoisting apparatus, together to-gether with the floor and gates of the elevator car were received here early in the week. Preliminary work was rushed by workmen here to be ready to install the equipment immediately. im-mediately. The elevator being of t)ic type operated op-erated by water pressure,, a 30-foot drain pool for the waste water has been dug in the street, fronting the hospital. A pipeline with connections connec-tions to the city water system has been laid to the elevator housing, and a deep retaining pit for the machinery ma-chinery has been excavated for the shaft. W. S. Storrs, chairman of the hospital hos-pital board, said the installation is expected to be completed soon, and the elevator ready for service. The lift will be especially useful for transferring, patients to and from the second floor on which the hospital hos-pital is located. As the room housing the first floor entrance to the elevator is quite large, extra space will be converted con-verted into service rooms, Mr. Storrs said. An archway will be cut from the street landing of the present stairway entrance, leading into the elevator. In this room a waiting room will be provided. Two other small rooms, one for storing supplies sup-plies and the other for an emergency emergen-cy operating room, also will be partitioned par-titioned off. The extra rooms downstairs are expected to relieve the hospital floor of crowding. Persons waiting at the hospital, as well, will be accomodated ac-comodated comfortably in the waiting wait-ing room.
