Show u Wrecked Mystery Car Dragged From Canyon Bottom A car stolen from Burt's garage in Provo last May was found wrecked and half -submerged in the creek, off j the dugway above Mutual Dell, i Monday. Wreckers Tuesday brought the demolished machine to American Ameri-can Fork. Because of lack of identification of the car at first, and possibility the overturned car might cover an accident ac-cident victim, the discovery aroused considerable excitement in American Fork and Pleasant Grove. Elmer Loveless, state highway patrolman, pa-trolman, and Golden Peay, Pleasant Grove city marshal, visited the scene Monday to investigate. The Martin Nielsen Auto company wrecker also was sent, to attempt to move the wreckage. More than 100 feet off the road down through dense brush, the car was too inaccessible to move. The wreckage was found by Ford Paulson, who reported it to officers. Apparently the car had been there some time, as it was partly filled with gravel and silt. License plates had been removed from the car, making it difficult to identify. Motor numbers, however, were taken for identification. Two wheels, also, had been stripped from the machine. Before the identification was made in Provo Monday night, conjectures were that either the car had been stolen and either deliberately or accidentally ac-cidentally driven off the dugway, or that it had been wrecked by some tourist who might have jpeen killed in the accident. Theory held most likely by investigating inves-tigating officers was that the car had been stolen, driven up the canyon, can-yon, there stripped of salable parts, and plunged over the dugway. |
